Newcastle Building Society
Newcastle Building Society's roots date back to the mid-19th century when the Grainger and the Newcastle Permanent Building Societies were formed.
These merged in 1980 under the new name, but it remains a fairly small organisation. It only has around 30 branches in the UK and these are clustered in the North of the country.
Unlike some of its peers in the building society sector, which tend to do rather well in our tables, it has below average customer happiness scores. This is still enough for it to gain a Bronze Fairer Finance Ribbon, though it doesn't place as highly as other building societies.
