Aegon is a large Dutch insurance company. It entered the UK market after it bought Scottish Equitable in 1994. Its products are mostly only available through financial advisers.
Though it took over the Scottish company over two decades ago, its UK headquarters are still in Edinburgh.
It offers pension products and ISAs which you can apply for via its website. Its life insurance product is now also sold through some comparison sites.
Relative to the rest of the insurance sector, it has a fairly poor record on complaints and claims, as well as a very low transparency score, leaving it towards the bottom of Fairer Finance's life insurance tables.
