Santander is a large Spanish bank that has operated in the UK since taking over Abbey National and Bradford & Bingley branches here.
The bank has a history of poor performance for its insurance offerings.
Fairer Finance rates its travel and home insurance, as well as its life insurance. While we don’t rate life insurance for customer happiness or trust, the other types of insurance we rate had fairly poor scores in these categories.
While Santander doesn't have the best transparency scores for its products, they’re definitely not the worst amongst their peers.
Santander’s life and home insurance policies are underwritten by Aviva, which doesn’t have a great complaints handling record. Furthermore, a poor transparency score leaves it towards the bottom of our life insurance table.
Meanwhile, its travel insurance is provided by ACE European Group Ltd, which has a much worse complaints record and customers tend to not place a lot of trust in this product.
