Bradford & Bingley
Founded in 1964, Bradford & Bingley was a bank that collapsed during the 2008 financial crisis. After being nationalised, it was split up and sold.
The savings business is now owned by Santander, while the mortgage business remains in public ownership. Some customers still hold mortgages with the brand, but you can't take out a new mortgage loan from Bradford & Bingley.
The only part of the business that still takes on new customers under the Bradford & Bingley brand is its insurance business. This is now owned by BGL Group, which owns Budget Insurance and Compare The Market. BGL also owns Beagle Street, a newcomer in the life insurance market.
Bradford & Bingley's head offices for insurance are in Bingley, West Yorkshire.
