Alex is a digital pioneer, having spent his early career building the UK’s first cable communications network and online services with Virgin Media. He helped build the first online investment portal as CEO of interactive investor and in recent years he founded CrowdRating, an independent screening service for equity crowdfunding investors.
He is currently a Non-Executive Director of the Money and Pensions Service, an arms-length body of the Department of Work and Pensions, dedicated to improving the nation’s Financial Wellbeing.
Alex was educated at St Andrews University and UC Berkeley, and has an MBA from Harvard Business School. Alex is married with two teenage children and lives in Somerset.
Helen’s career has been spent championing consumers’ interests, first in executive roles and now as a non-executive.
She was a member of the senior leadership team of Which? for more than a decade. As Editorial Director she was responsible for Which?’s independent information and advice, and its comparative ratings. She also served as Policy Director and finally Deputy CEO.
Helen now has a number of non-executive roles with a focus on consumer protection and empowerment. These roles include being a Trustee of Aegon’s MasterTrust, a member of its Independent Governance Committee and a Committee Member of Healthwatch England. She has also held consumer advisory roles with Ofgem and the Office of Rail and Road, and was Deputy Chair of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
Andrew founded Fairer Finance with James in 2014. He has over 30 years of experience as a risk manager, think-tank director, consultant and journalist. Among his activities, Andrew is a senior advisor on enterprise risk management for Vitruvian Partners, working with portfolio companies in a wide range of sectors. Since 2012 he has been a Risk Fellow at the Centre for Risk Studies, part of the Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge.
Prior to setting up Fairer Finance, Andrew enjoyed spells at Deloitte and McKinsey, where he was a founding member of the firm's Global Risk practice. From 2014-19 He was Chief Risk Officer at Ardian, a private equity firm.
Andrew started his career in journalism, working on the Lex column at the Financial Times before going on to spend 14 years at The Economist, where he wrote extensively on banking and finance.
