FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday 8th March 2017

Consumer group Fairer Finance has awarded its first ever Clear & Simple Mark to the insurance company Bought by Many.

The Mark is awarded for documents that meet a strict set of criteria around clear language and design - but no financial services company has qualified for the award until now.

Bought by Many's pet insurance policy document is the first to qualify for the mark. As well as having a low reading age of 11, the document is laid out clearly, with little jargon or complex language.

James Daley, managing director of Fairer Finance said: "Almost one in six UK adults have a reading age of 11 or less, yet most documents are incomprehensible even to those with university degrees.

"It's not just about using clearer language and eliminating jargon. Clear layout, adequate spacing and font sizes - as well as use of colour and images - are all crucial to making a document approachable and accessible for customers. "

We launched the Clear & Simple Mark in 2015 and no one has qualified for it until now. We're delighted that Bought by Many has become the first - and we hope many more companies will follow."
