AIG Life

AIG is one of the world's largest insurers. Its headquarters are in New York and it is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.

In the UK, AIG is not well known for providing products direct to consumers. It's bigger in the commercial market. But it does own travel insurer Direct Travel, and Direct Car Excess Insurance. The latter of these can offer extra cover for people driving a rental car, to cover 'gaps' in the car insurance included by the rental company.

AIG also has a number of protection products which it sells under the AIG Life brand. In 2014, it bought Ageas' life insurance business.

The Ageas life insurance business pays out a much lower percentage of claims than its competitors. The company says this is due to the fact that it only launched a few years ago. So it currently has a relatively small number of claims each year.
