Halifax was founded in 1853 in Halifax, West Yorkshire. It was originally formed as the Halifax Permanent Benefit Building and Investment Society and became a publicly limited company in 1997.
In 2009 it became a subsidiary of Lloyds Banking Group. Lloyds Banking Group is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a member of the FTSE 100.
As well as the Lloyds and Halifax brands, the group also owns Bank of Scotland, MBNA, Scottish Widows and Birmingham Midshires.
Halifax offers a wide range of banking products, including current accounts, savings accounts, mortgages and personal loans. It also offers credit cards and several insurance products.
